Thinking of buying, need advice

I have the opportunity to purchase a 1996 Sun Voyager, Ford 460, I am not sure of the exact model, it has twin beds in the rear separated by a washing machine. It is very clean in side with little wear and tear. I am told the transmission was rebuilt a couple years ago, as well as the roof has been replaced. It does not look very rusty underneath. The rig has 48,000 miles. The genny was puffing blue oil smoke badly when I tested it.

The asking price is $5000.00.

Any advice is truly appreciated.

Look closely for signs of water damage. 5K seems a little high.

Plan on $3,000-$4,000 maintenance over next 2-4 years, brakes, tires, furnishings and miscellaneous; if you buy it; Oil change and oil level at proper level w/ engine properly warmed up may clear all smoke? DIY as much as you can will get you best use of your $$.

Thank you and a couple more questions

Thanks to those who responded, your input is welcomed. Can any one offer insight on what type of mileage it would get? And also is the two single beds with washer in the middle an unusual configuration? It also does not have any slide outs? Is that odd? I am wondering if this was a purpose built rental unit as I can find no information on the particular floor plan?

Thanks again
Brian

Just throwing it out there,

How long do you plan on using this rig? Right now 23 years old. by the time you invest in all the repairs its going to take and bringing it up to the level you would like it will be a 25-28 year old unit. Not to mention your time.

put the 5k down on a new rig, money is cheap right now. all the funds you will spend on up grades and break downs will more then make the payments on a newer rig with warrantee, you will be much happier and less stressed. You will actually enjoy using it.

somebody on here just bought an older rig, the engine failed and the cost to repair is more then it is worth
