1988 CC clicking noise from batteries

I have a 1988 CC. Just replaced both batteries on the passenger side of the coach. When batteries are connected there is a clicking sound like something is drawing current or trying to start. I turned off switches to generator, batteries, and even turned off circuit breakers from breaker box. I am perplexed. The coach has been sitting for 3 years. My ederly parents did not keep up with maintenance.

sounds like a relay or a solenoid. Did you clean the terminals when you put the new batteries in. Also if they are six volt did you hook them up in series (12v) or parallel(6v). Outside of that you might have to have a mechanic look at it. Good luck.

A guess, ours is 89 so close, post your model and length, 38'Savannah SE...

Anyway, above the driver us a panel with tank indicators, power left switch us coach batteries, selenoid above the batteries, 12 volt distribution behind tv.

Now with a real keyboard...
The coach batteries on the right side have a large selenoid near them, we have not "touched" ours as we had not had a reason to.

Depending on your floor plan the exact placement of parts may be slightly different.

For ours, the bedroom TV is in a tall cabinet above there the batteries are.

Behind the TV is the 12 volt coach buss, a bunch of breakers in there, by the way if your steps are slow, you add a secondary power wire here, can advise later if you wish.

From this bus there is a large cable going toward the batteries, the selenoid is in the middle.

In the same area is also 2 Automatic Transfer Switch, one for the generator and one for the inverter.

There also is a Manual Transfer Switch for the inverter in there, it is connected to the switch above the sink on your inverter control panel that selects the circuits to operate, if it sticks there is a jumper "delay" that can be changed on the MTS to fix it.

When plugged into shore power you will hear a hum in this area, that is the coils in the ATS, it is normal.

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTION
In the bedroom is the AC Load center, turn OFF the breaker labeled for converter.

If it is not labeled, have a helper stand at the corner of the coach, turn them off until the hum stops.

The converter is 70 amp, and is fero-resonant, which means it is self regulating, and it is just high enough a voltage that it will over charge the batteries, they only will last a season if left plugged in.

It also pulls 5 amps regardless of load, so buy some battery Minders and install them on your batteroes to float them while in storage.

When using the coach turn the converter on, off while stored.

From the engine compartment inside and to the right above your head is an outlet where it plugs in, it can be unplugged here and float charger plugged in, but that is a hastle, better to add a new circuit for the float chargers and use the breaker to control the converter.

In front under the coach is the dryer for the air system, easy to change and it shoud be done.

The chasis is Gillig, but they are expensive.

Draw a diagram of the drier, it is the big round thing in the center in front of the axle about the sixe of a paint can.

There should be a tag on it, Bendix, AD-7 or 9, call an air brake shop, you can get a factory (Bendix) rebuilt one for about $20.00 than just the kit.

That is it for now...

Go play and explore, ask more questions on additional threads.

Are the batteries you replaced for the House sytem or Chassis system or Both systems?

Does the engine start?

Do 12v systems inside the coach operate (lights etc)?

After you turned off the battery switch for the House battery, did the clicking stop?

After you turned off the battery switch for the Chassis battery, did the clicking stop?

Answers to the above questions will help us help you, maybe.

For now we do not know which battery system is clicking and what the operational status of each system is.
