1999 Allure versus Intrique

Hi there. We currently have an MCI MC-5 conversion and have decided to go to a 102" coach of similar quality such as a Country Coach. Our budget puts us right in the 1998-2001 vintage.

I've been searching here to determine the differences between various models. I've seen a 36 ft and 40ft Allure and one 40ft Intrigue. Is there a sticky thread that compares them?

The intrigue will have chrome mirrors vs black, aluminum wheels vs steel with stainless wheel liners, and the Intrigue has fiberglass cargo doors with 2 key only latches that must be locked and unlocked every time you open the compartment versus aluminum doors with a lockable door handle.

Go to Damon Rapozo's web site. He has a history of Country Coaches. Why not look at Magna's and Affinity's--they have a lot of added features.

Agree with Damons site.
And maybe lots more headaches with the Magna's and Affinity's at least with the newer ones loaded with electronics!

And welcome to the forum... Good luck on your hunt!

The Intrigue is the next rung up the CC model ladder from the Allure. Depending upon model year, this can make a difference on the various goodies available. As you move up a few years above your target, both the Allure and Intrigue come with the ISL vs ISC. The ISL does have a two speed Jake Compression Assist, vs Exhaust. Also, the Intrigue could also optionally have had the CAT C12/C13, which is a nice boost in power over the ISL.

Also depending upon model year, the Intrigue may have a generator that slides out, vs the Allure up until I believe 2005/6 model year, did not have a generator slide.

If you search over at the Yahoo CC Owner group.

https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/...ages?query=ray

You will find a thread about a 2000 36' coach that Ray Bensten in San Diego is selling. I posted this thread, as I was just blown away with the condition and modifications Ray had made to his rig. Very unique, very, very clean - inside and outside and underneath too... For awhile, he had it on San Diego Craigslist, may still be posted.

Best of luck to you on your hunt,
Smitty

One thing to consider it that in 2000 CC started with the independent front suspension that gives the coach a much tighter turning radius than the pre 2000 models with the straight front axle.
good luck

This is very helpful. It's difficult to find this type of comparative information elsewhere. I am checking out the CC group on Yahoo as well. Thanks for that.

We've located a nice 2000 Magna 40 with slide. Trying to find a brochure for that model and year so I can research the OEM specs. Damon's site doesn't seem have specification info.

Things I like about our old Magna.

Very reliable for the past 14 years.

Generator slide out in nose. (Easier than toting a fork lift along to get to both sides of generator.)

No slideouts to manage, repair, leak or interrupt our trips. A 40' with two slides would have less lineal feet to use at the floor level due to slide mechanism, than our 38'. Hence a long sofa and a long galley counter.

OTR Air Conditioning engine compressor driven system. Cools bedroom and dash area while driving.

Gillig Chassis. Rides like a bus, because it was made by Gillig Bus.

Microphor L-220 home style toilet. A pricey feature.

Things that could be improved:

Engine power is 300hp Cummins C8.3L. More power would be nice.

Install bigger tires on front axle to reduce required PSI inflation for axle weight.

Stop it from getting older. Things do wear out with age and use. Will turn 100K miles on next trip.

Thanks Dean. One thing that attracts us to CC is the Gillig history. Our current rig is an MCI and we like that bus ride for sure.

This Magna we're looking at has a C-10 Cat set at 385hp. So I need to research that powertrain a bit as well. I know a lot about Cummins C8.3, and ISC and ISL.

Hopefully somebody has a link to the OEM specifications for the 2000 Magna. I've also contacted CC service in Oregon to see if they have it.

Hi Mike,
Thanks. This is what I was looking for. Very helpful. The one we discovered appears to be the Indulgence with the C-10. I was unable to find the specifications found in this brochure. GCVW, Rear axle ratio, overall ride height; etc.
Fred
