2000 Alure Starter will not crank

My 2000 country coach allure has been parked for about 20 days. When I tried to start it the dash lights come on bright but the starter doesn't crank. I have tried the battery boost switch and the generator will start. So I am sure the battery is ok. Any thoughts?

First get out the voltmeter and check the chassis batteries. If they're good, then. In no particular order.
Possible , bad ignition switch .
Bad starter relay. ( I've replaced 3 )
Poor chassis battery ground or dirty cable connections , takes 20x the power to crank the engine as turn on the lights.
Neutral safety switch. Is the shift pad lit up ?
Or bad starter.

Open the "hood" and look down inside and to the right. You should see another relay. It is mounted on the engine side of the fuel filter bay bulkhead. Give this a couple of whacks and see if you can start the coach. These relays can get water in them and cause problems. Replacement is easy, just watch the hot power leads.

I had to replace the starter a couple of years ago. I had the good fortune to go to a guy who rebuilt all the starters for Cummins in Missoula. I pulled the starter out and he went through it and showed me what the problems was. He was able to put together a rebuilt one for me and I was down the road an hour later. Sorry I forgot what the exact problem with the starter was. Symptoms. It wouldn't start sometimes. I had to go underneath and use a screw driver on the solenoid on the starter to jump between 2 terminals and sometimes that would get it to crank over. Apparently there was one or two spots on the armature that would get in a position where it wouldn't work. Good Luck

2000 Allure

Ken,
In front of the passenger seat, remove the panel under the dash, mine has 6 screws. Inside you should see the solenoid that will click when you turn on the key. Try the screw driver handle whack on it , with the key in the start position. Has worked twice for me.

Thanks
I was able to tap the starter solenoid located in the engine compartment and that fixed it for now. I will have to pick up another solenoid for it.

I didn't find out what chassis your coach was built on.
Here is the info , with cross reference numbers for my Freightliner. Just in case this will help.
If you can find any numbers on the original for cross reference, that's the best way , because although many of these parts look the same , sometimes the small terminals have different uses.

When mine quit, I took it apart and found it full of water. I have no idea how water could get in it. It is nothing special, just a Ford continuous duty starter relay. There is a marine version that is hermetically sealed and that one will cost about 40 bux.

I have a 2002 and they have another solenoid in the LF compartment that controls the ignition, dash lights, etc. It is the same one as in the back. That one went out on my coach so I bought 2 for when the one in the back give up the ghost.

That relay crapped out on my coach about 4 yrs ago. Purchased a new one from Napa Auto Parts. Its been working fine since then.

I went through the starter issue last year. replaced with a starter from o'reilly. there are about 8 different kinds of starters for ISC's. after I got that done I still had issues and there is the secondary relay that is mentioned above. be careful when you remove it, there is a diode that bridges two of the terminals and mine broke when I took it off...I have about 49 of them still I think as I had to buy a lot of 50!

starts everytime now
