2007 Magna Entry Door Step Issues

After replacing the plunger switch in the door the steps will still randomly come out while driving down the road. I'm at a loss as to what else I can do to solve the problem without taking it in to a service center. Has anyone else had this issue? Is there a way to disconnect the power (fuse?) to the steps or any other corrective action so that the steps stay in so that I can at least drive it on the road safely to a service center?

You have an intermittent connection so you need to stimulate it to simulate the condition...sorry it is early...

Park it in a shady place and start by simulating the conditions that cause it to fail.

Fails while driving so ign on but engine not running.

Close the door so steps retract then grip the bottom of the door and shake it.

Next tap the sidewall near the switch.

Locate the wire harness to step controller and start wiggling things.

BE CAREFULL AS IT CAN AND WILL HURT YOU if you are in the path.

If you get underneath the steps, it is fairly obvious which is the power wire to the step controller. You can pull it with the steps in--you just need a small ladder to safely get in and out. We had a similar issue. A new step controller solved the issue.

On my 08 it turned out to be the wire going from the door through the jam. I got a new harness from Kevin and problem solved. I think you an unplug the harness in the hatch behind the gen to disable if travel is needed.
