Question 32' Allure, Crescent Residential Refrig ?

Hello all,

We recently down-sized to a 2003 32' Allure, Crescent 350. The coach still has the original 8 cu ft Dometic refrigerator, which I believe may be on its last legs. My questions are has anyone installed a residential refrigerator in a coach this size; if so which model refrigerator did you install; was it necessary to change out the inverter for a larger one, I expect we have a 2000 watt?

Thanks for any info.

Your inverter will power up a residential refer. Just make sure that it can run off of a modified sine wave. There are refers that will fit in the same opening as your current model. I don't know which ones but they are out there. You might even have room for the Samsung 18 footer

Here is a link to a refrigerator that will fit in your slide.

COSTCO has their 2 yr warranty and optional warranty that has my interest. I am considering this frig in my slide that has the original 2dr 8cu ft. Dometic. You'll notice it is a 12 cu ft., too.

Costco fridge is a nice one. You could look at a few 12vdc units from Nova Kool or Vitrifrigo. I bought the Nova Kool 9000. Works great, but ain't cheap 😜

32' Allure, Crescent Residential Refrig

Here's the refrigerator we ended up buying to put in our rig. It's a Fisher & Paykel: RF135BDLX. It was a little spendy, but doubles our frig capacity. It will be installed the second week of March.

Thanks all for your comments.

Unfortunately We do way too much dry camping, so a residential is out of the question, need to find a replacement for a Dometic 1492 in the near future.

I find that an interesting statement.

We are presently on our liveaboard boat, on a mooring with over 250 other moored or anchored boats.

Out here, there are no services, and because propane refrigerators are not allowed on boats, every boat has a 12 or 120 volt refrigerator.

A few extra batteries, solar panels, and or extra generator run time, makes it doable.

Nowdays, you have choices.

We also do quite a bit of dry camping and we have had no problems with our Samsung. I have 2 2D house batteries fo 500 amp hours and a 3000 watt Magnum inverter. No problems.

The residential refer is better insulated that the old propane/electric and also weighs less. Our 18 foot residential weighs less than the old 12 foot Dometic that it replaced.

What size is a 2D? When I got my Full River GC224 6 volt batteries, I considered 4D or 8D (178 lbs!!!!) but saw no 2 D size.

It's math. You need to know the amp draw of the fridge X the hours it runs.

My 7 c.f. fridge draws 10 amps. Since it only runs 20 minutes an hour it's using 3.3 AH ( amp hours ).

Let's double that for a large fridge.

6.6 AH from a battery bank of 2 good, 250 AH, 8D batteries means you can run the fridge for 37 hours, before the battery bank is at 50% capacity. A good time to recharge.

If you run anything else on the batteries or open and close the fridge door many times, your time will be shorter.

Keep in mind that putting back 250 AH should, mathematically, take a 100 amp charger 2 1/2 hours.

The battery will resist the high current so it will take 3 to 4 hours to recharge it.
It never goes back in as fast as it comes out.

Pretty sure the "2D" is a typo, bet Don meant "8D"... as many 8D's come with up to 250AH's.

Smitty gets a gold star. Typing isn't my best feature with the computer sitting in my lap.

Got it. When I got the coach it had 2 8D Deka AGM's but they were at the end of their game. I briefly considered replacing them with 8D's but I felt I wanted batteries that I could physically handle if I need to. My six GC2's make for a busy battery area, for sure. When they need to be replaced I may just go back to a couple of 8D's.
