In deed it does. When I bought mine back in '04 the weight was 162. I wonder where the 6 pounds went.

That would be a lot. In looking at the cases on mine and the new ones, there might be some savings there but I don't think 6 pounds worth

That is only one pound per cell so not much.

Different plate design could use less lead, starting battery has more surface area, less thick, deep cycle are thicker plates.

Minor change per plate will add up...
