An alternator is and alternator, not sure their reference to a "motorhome" alternator unless your referring to price. We recently purchased a 270 amp diesel alternator for our fleet price of $438. I think your decision to tow was a sound one. I assume your coach is a DP with either a CAT/Cummins, my questions would be access to the alternator-under the bed, or multiple access panel that have to be removed. The thing is with any shop that works on motorhomes, remember they are working in your bedroom and extra care/prep needs to be done to preserve the interior. and most likely you are paying retail for the part. If you are willing to take on the work yourself you could pay the shop to charge the batteries for 24 hrs and then drive it the remainder of the way home to do the work yourself, save you the labor cost and give you time to price shop for a new/rebuilt alternator.

Actually Rick, they said the alternator was $450 and 3.5 hours labor at $100 P/H As for access, my Beaver Cat was very accessible via the bedroom but don't know if my Intrigue is accessible thru there. I opened the back door and it was visible but didn't look all that accessible, but it was 21 degrees sitting on the side of the road and really didn't feel like looking into it very far
It's done and it's $815 weather I like it or not!
