Auxiliary Heater

I have a 2005 CC 330 Inspire. My axillary heater came on while I was in cold weather. Can anyone tell my how the axillary heater system works.

When you mean auxiliary heater, are you speaking of your LP furnace or does your Inspire have an Aqua Hot heating system? Tell us a bit more about the situation and how you had your thermostats set, etc.

My 2005 Inspire 330 has 2 zones on the thermostat, Zone 1 is the front half of the coach and Zone 2 is the rear. Each zone has modes for Fan, Cool, Heat Pump, and Furnace. The Heat Pump mode uses the air conditioning units to generate heat instead of cool. Furnace mode utilizes the two LPG fired forced air furnaces.

I don't know it for a fact, but, I suspect the system may switch to the furnace heat below a certain temperature as the heat pumps become ineffective when it gets very cold.

mine is a 2000 not as new as yours but the furnace part might be the same or similar. first you would turn your thermostat on and select furnace; when temp drops to below than the temp on thermostat you preset, the furnace (burning diesel fuel) will be ignited, which heats up engine coolant, and the blowers under dash in front of passenger seat, at galley and in bed room will blow hot air. if the coolant is already hot shortly after you shut off engine, the blower will be on but furnace ignition will be delayed until the coolant temp drops to certain degree. the furnace/blower will stop if your room temp reaches 1 degrees above your preset temp on thermostat. that is pretty much about it.

If you meant why did your furnace come on when you had it set to heat pump: many systems are set up so that if the heat pump can't keep up , the furnace will come on. Typically if the internal temp drops more than 3 degrees below the thermostat setting.

Mine must work the same way. I wanted to run the gen-set for about an hour so I started both heat pumps and both furnaces came on, got hot twice as fast. What a deal.

I found the service manual for my units, the heat pumps switch to furnace mode at 24 degrees F and then swap back to heat pump when the temp warms back to 34 degrees.

My 2005 CC Inspire, does not use diesel to heat my coach. I can use propane in the "Furnace" mode or electricity in my "Heat Pump" mode. I haven't noticed before now that my heater will be redirected to "Auxillary" while in the Heat Pump mode. I don't notice my propane being drawn down in the Auxilary mode. I guess I want to know if my propane is being used while in the the Heat Pump mode but automatically being redirected to the Auxillary mode in cold weather?

Yep, that's the way it is supposed to work, the heat pump mode switches to aux heat which uses the propane furnaces when the outside temp goes to 24 degrees or below.

Country Coach must have used different AC unites because mine are manufactured by RVP and the controls are RV. Comfort.zc and when I ran the gen-set the temp out side was around 55degs and both the heat pumps and propane furnaces ran at the same time, it warmed up twice as fast. If I just use the furnace mode only the propane furnaces run but on electric both run.

When they are running go out and feel the cover outside and if they are HOT and sounds like a jet plane then they are using propane.

Interesting! I noticed the brochure I have says the AC/Heat Pump units are Coleman, the units on mine are Duo Therm just like the manual I posted (except they are dual zone). So, they could operate differently coach to coach with different equipment. Go figure.

My 05 Inspire can be set to run either the heat pump for each zone or the furnace, but no way to operate both in one in one zone. I have the Duo-Therm thermostat & presently it's not seeing the furnace in zone 2 so I need to figure out how to do a complete reset.

I have a 1998 Intrigue with the 2 Duo Therm heatpumps and a propane furnace. My propane will come on as Aux Heat if the outside temp drops to the mid 20's. My system is designed so that the heatpumps WILL NOT come on when the propane is running.
