Battery Boost

I saw a mention some time ago about a fuse or relay or???? that allows the boost switch on the console to activate. I looked but just could not find the posting.

On our 05 Inspire, we had some chassis battery issues and I realized that my boost switch was not working.

Any clue or suggestions what I"m missing?

thanks in advance.

Toni,

There are two ways the battery boost will work. First, whenever the engine is running there is an oil pressure switch that will sense oil pressure and close the boost relay. The other is with a switch from the drivers seat.

You might connect a volt meter to the two small wires (1 red and 1 black) at the boost relay (located above the chassis battery) and have someone operate the switch from the driver seat. If you are not getting any voltage you'll need to trace down the feed. If the relay is working you should be able to hear it close and open (with the engine off). Mine has a large push button circuit breaker inside the charger/inverter compartment. It may have tripped.

The battery boost relay is the white thing with the two large red cables connecting to it.

The boost relays main function is a battery isolator. It allows the house battery to be discharged while leaving the chassis battery full .It latches when the engine has oil pressure and connects the house battery bank to the chassis bank so they both charge when the engine is running. You can tell it works by checking the voltage at the house battery bank and the chassis battery bank when not running. Then start the engine and check the voltages again. They should have voltage around 14 volts and both be the same. On my relay there is a power wire then two ground circuits. One ground to an oil pressure switch and the other ground goes to the boost switch on the dash. Hope this helps.

Look at your electrical schematics for the boost system in your CC owners manual.

On my old rig, the components and their locations are detailed.

You can also look at the wire number listings as to source and destination in the manual.

Once you find the wire number, you can trace it on the relevant schematic to a fuse or just go to the fuse listings and find the wire number.

Thanks Barney, Rod and Dean. At least now I've got a few places to start. Unfortunately I don't have a schematic. I understand they can be had from CC and I may have to try that if I don't find a simpler answer.

I'll post what I find out.

My electrical schematics are in a section of the CC Owners manual that came with the rig in 1995.

If you have such a manual, you may have the schematics. Hopefully.

I overlooked that section for about 4 years until I realized how helpful it is to DIY resolutions.
