Braund Concord Antenna Gearing

Does anyone know if the raise lowering gears are available and where I might be able to find them? The wire broke/ came off the switch telling control that the antenna was down and stripped the plastic gear on the horizontal shaft. If the gears aren't available what have others done to replace antenna?

I like the low profile all directional as that would mean no lowering, raising or pointing but do they work??? Have also thought about replacing with a non lowering directional and making an adapter to mount it to my base so it can turn something like the Jack King. Would like to be able to pick up local stations when available and don't want to buy junk and have to replace again.

Can't speak on the CC antenna, but on a previous MH, I replaced an older Wineguard with a JACK. The Jack works very well!

Omnidirectional antennas have not had a good rep in the past. This one, however, gets some good buzz. I have not tried it but when my Braund goes out it will likely be the first one on my short list as a replacement.

Winegard’s Rayzar Automatic Antenna

Please keep us posted. It's only a matter of time until we're in the same boat.

I checked into it but they say it needs to be mounted where it has a clear line of sight. We have the Girard style awnings on the pass. side and matching facades on the drivers. Would need to elevate the antenna above them. Just not practical.

I installed the Jack antenna on the arms of my Concord antenna.

It worked fine as an antenna, but the same trees that destroyed my Concord antenna head also got the Jack.

So, I just removed the whole thing after 10 years of various failures of the Concord beast and passed it on to the trash company.

waternut,

I had a different issue but I found out that "Barker Manufacturing Co" bought out the Concord/Braund Antenna system and they do still have Some parts. They are located in Battle Creek, Michigan and a gentleman named "Bob" helped me last October. Phone there is 269-965-2371.
Good luck,

Called Baker said they no longer have gears for antenna, tried several other shops and no luck. Did not want to try to install new rotating antenna as mounting location of original antenna was over the "crystal" glassware cabinet and not a good place to try install rotating devices. I went with a Winegard Omni direction antenna. Removed all the moving parts to the Concord, drilled and taped bolt holes in the original fixed mounting base to mount new antenna. Inside my Shop picked up 6 stations and that's not too bad reception inside a building, as good as I had with the Concord. Leaving for the Keys next week and will see how it does and post results. Positives are it is done, works and no pointing , raising or lowering of the antenna. We use the dish on roof most the time anyway unless trees are blocking signal.

Anxious to read your results as have same antenna on our Monaco and when hit raise button has stopped working. Other buttons light up, not raise. Husband checked antenna on roof and it is still up there and no obstruction.

Mine didn't raise one time and I tapped it with a hammer and it went up. I think the brushes were loose in the motor. I exercise it now more frequently .

As John said, call Bob at Braun. He knows that antenna inside and out. They still have controllers, which may be your issue. Mine failed (again) recently and the controller was the culprit (again). Bob had me perform this test:

Remove all the wires from the controller and then apply power and ground to #2 and #3 wires (as marked on the connector). + to #3 makes it go up, + to #2 brings it down.

If it works, then you can buy a new controller for about $100. If it doesn't the problem is somewhere in the roof unit. Few parts are available but it could be something as simple as corrosion.

The design of the connector on the controller is very poor. The wires lead into it from the bottom making it hard to fit into the mounting box without flexing the board itself. The standoff supplied to bandaid that problem isn't thick enough to be effective. The next time mine fails I;ll replace the whole thing.

Cheers,

Bob, thanks for the info! My husband did test and looks like controller is the culprit :(. Now we are faced with the decision, Salvage controller for $106, new one for $150, or go with complete change to more modern system and all the changes it entails. :face palm:

Thanks to original poster Waternut for allowing me to temporarily hijack his post.

Thanks for posting this test. Interestingly, once I hooked the wires back up, everything worked as it should have. It did not appear that any wires were loose, but, perhaps they were, or, perhaps the motor just got unstuck when I hotwired it.

I may have what you need. Our antenna lift/rotate mechanism broke and I could not find parts. So we had a Razar installed and I kept the controller and switch plate.

How about you pay shipping and offer us a beverage next time we meet?

On edit: It was set up for DirecTV, if that matters.

The DMM2 post was back in 2016, so, I assume that they may have resolved their problem by now. After more troubleshooting, I think I have determined that my problem is more likely to be the magnetic reed switch sensor in the control head that is bad rather than the controller itself. However, I would be happy to have yours as a spare, or in case my diagnosis happens to be incorrect if you care to unload it. I can get a reed switch at the hardware store and figure out for sure if that is my problem or not. I'll send you a PM and we can work out details. - NINK
