Carefree of Colorado Awning Question

Last time out, I tried to roll up my (110volt) awning and it didn't suck up all the way. Upon further investigation, I noticed a white plastic end cap that's attached to of of (3) folding arms had broken! That plastic piece attaches to the outside finish framework via a pin. I contacted the local dealer about a replacement piece and was told Carefree of Colorado will sell that little plastic piece but comes with a complete arm at a cost of $500 which doesn't include installation! And they can't match my pewter color, just black! Anybody know what I'm talking about or where I can get this little plastic jewel?

Can you identify the model and item number from the Carefree of Colorado web site parts viewer? If all else fails, I'd give them a call to see if they can help.

I don't know which model you have so I can't be which part #17 refers to, but if a part is numbered individually they it's available by itself.

I hope they come through for you as the compete part is expensive! Another thought, is to take the broken part to a machine shop and have them machine a new one for you - or two. It sure can't cost $500+ and you'll have matching pewter arms and spare parts.

Have a friend had a similar Carefree experience with his anemometer. All he needed was a replacement cup but they would only sell the whole anemometer. Several hundred dollars for half a ping pong ball.

You might find a 3D printer service online that could print you a new one. Try google.

Good suggestion, however be careful. Many 3D printers make parts with what are essentially hollow cores. Not structural at all. They can also be dimensionally unstable, meaning the may warp, or shrink over time. If you go this route be sure the fabricator has the exact dimensions or dimensional drawing, and is fully aware that this will be a structural member of your awning and not just a prototype, sample, or mock-up part.

Well I took my broken plastic piece to a local machinist and he made me a solid aluminum replacement for $200! Now I don't know what I'm gonna do with the $300 I saved!

Thanks BonS for the suggestion!
