Carefree of Colorado Mirage Awning Repair?

2004 CC Intrique 36'.
My 14' Carefree Mirage electric patio awning quit working. I have confirmed controls are working, motor clicks when trying to extend/retract but does not move. Amperage is about 3 amps. Limit switch tweaking, same result. Tried bypassing control, 120v direct to motor leads, same result of about 3 amps, so appears motor is the culprit.
It manually (via Allen wrench) extends/retracts smooth enough.
An aside, awning arms are said to be spring loaded, so what keeps it from extending while in motion. Is there an integral brake in motor?
Wonder if anyone has tried removing the motor for a field examination/repair?
Carefree lists a replacement motor at over $1500!
Anyone, please?

Thanks for reply.

120 vac.
Have done searches on the CC yahoo site, some say motor is a standard Simu but no info on what model.

Am hesitant about attempting to pull motor for ID without further knowledge of what to expect when drive end is disconnected.

I'll bet it is a 12vdc motor. The parts list shows a 12vdc controller for it. I'm surprised it didn't smoke when you hit it with 120 ac. I think I would take it apart to see if there might just be a bad circuit in it. If it is 12v and didn't smoke on 120 the power might not be getting all the way to the motor. It doesn't look like there are any springs in the tube with the motor so it shouldn't be a problem to take apart. There may be some other tube motors that could be modified to fit. You could also go to the manual gear drive.

CareFree motor replacement

I recently replaced my CareFree motor with a 12 volt window lift motor.
I got I it from orielly auto parts.
It’s a Cardone 82-127. It was an exact replacement for the oem original.
Get a new one, not rebuilt $50.
Easy to install
Works great.

Sorry bobinKS yours is a 120 volt motor so mine replacement won't work in your Mirage awning.
I would suggest removing it and see if you can get it rebuilt.

Awning is Carefree Mirage, 120vac, 20' patio awning.
Since coach is outside and not under cover, am hesitant to extend awning fully as recommended by Carefree, in order to remove motor to ID, as unexpected summer storm, and wind, would be damaging to extended awning.

Have been told it is okay to extend slightly, tie arms together to prevent further extension, block up roller tube when pulling motor.

I was hoping to hear from someone who has done this before proceeding to pull motor.

Thanks.
