Carpet replacement

I am considering replacing the carpet in my 03 Intrigue, possibly with engineered flooring or new carpet. Any pitfalls, advise or other useful info would be appreciated. I hope to do the work myself.

Carpet replacement

Jim
I replaced my carpet last fall with engineered wood.
It was a diy project that turned out quite well. It took me about 16 hours not including the transition trim.
I would rate it about a 3 on a scale of 1 to 5, five being difficult.

I needed to add 1/4" subflooring to get the plank floor to the height to match the tile.
Glue it down if you do so. I stapled mine and had it pop up in the middle. Had to heat it peal it up and inject glue screw it down and glue the flooring back down. Its fine now but what a PITA

Just stumbled across this thread and looking for advise from an experienced installer or a DYI Guy that has done this.
Plan- I decided after 22 years its time to upgrade and remove the old carpet.
Wow ! What a mess ! Must be a few thousand staples that I removed getting the old carpet out. Either way the old carpet is out and I have the Floor all clean and ready. I guess there are 2 methods of installing carpet- My question is to Staple or install tack Strips against the walls. one wall is hidden from the sofa and the other is behind 2 chairs so appearance isn't an issue. The living area I'm doing is 8' x 11' and I have to cutout for the Flex Steel chair bases ( about 8' round) while I'm doing the install.
Any and all suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks

Well-- The carpet job is moving along, slow but sure. These old bones are sore after 2 days of tearing out and prepping the floor. Did the most difficult part first- Under the dash.

Just had our coach done a few weeks ago. Wish we would have done it years ago. Go for it.

Here's what we did...

WELL -- I will feel your pain as these M-Homes are not easy to re-carpet. Mine is 22yrs old. if it helps I made a blue print off measurements and installed in one piece as I didn't want any seams. the biggest chore was removing all of the furniture- Chairs- sofa and front dash kick panels.
I'm preparing to do the hallway and Br next- should be a little easier, I also steel wooled and re-finished the Solid Oak. Looks Like new. Oh I also installed Bed Lift Springs so the bed lifts right up with one hand.

Looks great. I personally like carpet better in the living area than 6-10mm laminate.
