Check those roof AC bolts

Based on a thread I read on another forum about someone being surprised to discover that bolts holding his roof AC unit/s were very loose, I decided to check mine, especially since this is the first coach I've had in years with roof AC units.

I removed the interior grill on the front AC and found three of the four bolts pretty loose. When I removed the grill on the middle AC, one of the bolts fell on the floor and two others were loose. I haven't checked the rear AC since I had to another task and will check tomorrow.

Bottom line, I was surprised to find the bolts so loose and will add this to my annual maintenance check list.

Don't tighten too far. May also need gasket replacement.

I snugged them up and I did see the gasket compress a bit but I was careful not to flatten it. From what I can see of the gasket, it looks good and the perimeter of the roof opening is clean and dry, no evidence of any leaking.

They are to be tighten at these specs according to the Dometic installation manual, 45-55 INCH POUNDS.

What about us guys with the fancy air deflectors on our ceilings, any ideas how to check these bolts? Does anyone know if these can be checked from the top? If so this will be an excuse to buy a nice Little Giant ladder!

I think it's Dometic who actually tells you to tighten it until it compresses halfway or so.
