Closet to Pantry ideas

We really don't have a good place to store dry goods and such. Would like to do something with the closet above washer and dryer. This is what I have to work with.

Installing some shelves into that closet space will do the job.

I would make them more of a drawer with short sides than a shelf and I would put them on slides so it is easier to get at stuff in the back. Get the good ball bearing slides and not those el cheapo slides with rollers

We did this in our pantry that came with some stupid wire baskets

If the above link would go in properly - how about a few of your cabinet doors, like under the sink, with these shelves that attach to cabinets?

We're lucky, as we have what we call our deep storage, under the cushion of a J-Lounge. Have two plastic 12" X 18" X 6" bins, and we store lots of can goods and other items in these. Shuffling a few cans at a time out and up to a small storage cabinet over the table area. I do have to keep and eye on DW, as she keeps wanting more space under the J Lounge, but dang it, I barely have room for my cases of wine!

Another gent that has an old bird, uses one of those shoe hangers (Sorry, not sure how to describe this. It's two feet wide, and 4' long, and usually hangs on a closet pole with pairs of shoes in them.) to store can, and other foods in, he has them mounted along the back of the closet behind the clothes. It's his sort of 'deep storage' area. Slide the clothes to the side, and he has a flashlight hanging off the wall too, so he can read the labels!

So those are two ideas!

We get by with the provided pantry plus stuff stashed in remote corners and under the J sofa.




If I were to suggest that hanging closet be used for food storage, I would have no where to hang my one pair of spare jeans. That is my DW's closet (along with the one with the sliding mirror doors).

Mike - I forgot to mention that we also converted our bedroom TV cabinet into more storage area. Removed the tube TV, added adjustable shelves (non sliding) and had matching cabinet doors fabricated. We elected not to install a replacement LCD TV, as we found we did not watch TV in bed. But we have all the cables and power still available, and could add an arm swing LCD TV in the future if so desired.

My DW added baskets onto these shelves, and has one large and two smaller baskets of storage. Moved most of the kitchen bath towels back to one of the baskets, and that freed up a kitchen drawer - that of course within a matter of months is full of items we did not know we could not live without!

I use a whole outside bay for my booze
I just swapped out the bedroom tv but haven't decided what to do with the cubby hole yet. The tv is on a swing out and tilt bracket. I need to finish some trim work on it also.

Thanks, I would like to take credit but my only involvement was the idea. A real woodworking fellow made it come to pass.
