Country Coach Magna 1997

Hey guys!

On my relentless hunt for the right motorhome I've just come across an ad for a 1997 Country Coach Magna 36ft no slide. This one would nicely fit my budget of about 30k and does look quite nice according to the outside and inside photos I got so far.

Unfortunately I couldn't find any brochures or other specifications about these years. Do you have any?

What do you guys think? was the build quality back then already good enough to consider a unit that old? I really don't mind having to do some repairs, however I'd like to use and live in it right away as well.

It has the Cummins 300hp 5.9l engine, according to my research this one promises to be pretty fuel efficient.

What's your opinion?

cheers,
Matt

Matt,
The early years of Country Coach were the solidest of their run. We have a '95, and it is solid as can be. All rubber should be closely inspected, and all appliances checked out. But it has good basic bones. If not for the fact we are buying a Prevost, our coach would last us the rest of our motorhoming days.

Hey all,

thanks for your replies, I inquired at CountryCoach and got the desired brochure. Probably they don't want me to share it online, but whoever would like to have it I'll gladly mail it.

These things really look like tanks and do seem to be built like one.

Obviously the internet ad is wrong, according to the brochure the engine should be a Cummins 6CTA8.3 300hp.
If it's still available next month I might go for it, well, we'll see...

cheers,
Matt

As my sig says we have an '09 Magna that we traded our '02 40' Dutch Star on. The Magna has about 30% LESS storage than the Dutch Star even though it's 5' longer (the tag and much bigger tires take room). It IS built like a tank! They used " plywood and took up a whole cabinet just for the AquaHot controls where Newmar would have put the control in the side of a cabinet. All the bays (except the wet bay and battery bays) are lined with " plywood and carpeted. The wet bay is stainless steel panels. The DSDP had a GVWR or 34,000#'s after the front axle change (12,000 to 14,600#), whereas the Magna has a UVW of 46,700+. The quality shows all over the place. Newmar would (and does) mount their AV stuff right on top of each other and a single cooling fan. Whereas our rig has them set on individual shelves with air space around them and dual fans with hidden outlets.
But the ISX engine and Cummins support are sadly lacking!

absolutely beautiful, Mike Be sure to leave me a message in case you pass by a unit like that one with a "for-sale" tag on!

Unfortunately the 97 I mentioned in this post got sold just before my inquiry. Bad luck I guess, would have been a nice one!

cheers,
Matt

Hey Matt, you might want to make a run at Peralko's rig. I suspect it is in excellent condition.

It appears he may be selling it when buying the Prevost?

We had a 95 Newmar London Aire with 8.3 Cummins 30HP. After Banks kit it performed almost as well as our 04 Essex with 500HP ISM. Will not be a problem as long as up grade performance with kits that are our there.

Yea, he is. it's actually posted in the classifieds: here

I'll keep it noted, but with 40ft it's a bit too long for what I'm actually looking for. I'd prefer a 34 or 36ft.
Anyway with all the maintenance done Peralko is offering an excellent price in my opinion, I'm surprised it hasn't sold yet.

cheers,
Matt
