Dip Stick Tube split - leaking oil
We have a 2000 Intrigue with Cummins ISC350 and noticed oil spray on back of the coach today. Looking at the dip stick tube there appears to be a bubble and split where it passes very close to the exhaust manifold.
We did just come thru Salt Lake City on I80 heading East and went up the pretty good climb. Temperatures all stayed in the normal range but looks like the heat was enough to weaken the dip stick tube.
So, the question is if I make sure I have the Oil level correct is there a way to either make a patch and clamp over this spot or cut the tube and find a way to plug the end so we can get home.
It looks like it is made of plastic hose like used on the air brake lines so I am sure I can make a proper splice when I get home but not easy to do while traveling.
Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks,
Bob Stockholm

Going to need to replace dip stick tube and then put a heat shield over tube and maybe also move it from exhaust. Make sure new dip stick tube same as old since there many oil pan for that engine and different length of dip sticks. Could go down to pan and remove dip stick tube and put plug in pan opening for tube till you can get new tube and stick.

Had the same problem on my coach. Plastic tube running to close to exhaust and turbo. I rerouted it away from heat source mentioned, and encased it inside a piece of heater hose. Have had no problems since.

I like the heater hose idea so I really appreciate that.
How did you replace the tube? cut out the bad part and use fittings or where you able to replace the entire line?
thanks!

I replaced entire tube. Mine has a steel press in fitting at the block. We patched a friends and his patch held, but blew again in another spot a year later. I think rerouting away from heat source is the important thing.

Allison recommends using the trans keypad for checking fluid level and not dip stick. That being said my trans keypad does not have this option. If yours does not and you rely on the dip stick for checking the level I would make sure that the new tube is the exact same length when you replace.

The tube a dip stick come as one, I rerouted it to keep it away from the exhaust manifold, easy fix. Leave the hard part in the block, warm up the tube and slide it on.
