Extend generator slide when using genset?

When we first saw our coach at the dealer, they had loaned it to some NHRA officials during an upcoming race in Charlotte. They had the generator running and the generator slide extended.

Recently during an overnight at Cabelas, we saw another DP with their generator slide fully extended while using the generator overnight.

Is there any particular reason for doing that? Is that some strategy to keep it running cooler? I ask because we are parked on asphalt in upper 90 degree heat and using the generator from about 11:00 am to 7 or 8PM every day until the end of this week.

My 10KW draws air from under the coach, I'd think that more shade would make for a cooler run than sticking it out in the sun. I don't think the circuit breakers and hour meter on mine are weatherproof either. We run ours seldom, but closed.

This question was recently asked at an RV rally I attended. The Cummins/Onan technicians indicated this had no effect on cooling. Cummins/Onan generators draw cooling air from underneath the unit so either open or closed would not matter. However, they have noticed that some coaches lay really low in the weeds when the suspension is lowered. They suggested that if your coach is a low rider, you may wish to raise the suspension to improve cooling and also to keep the air filter cleaner longer.

On my rig, extending the generator slide separates the muffler from the tail pipe of the generator exhaust. That would leave the exhaust exiting under the center of the MH.
