Fiberglass cracks on 2005/6 models

We have a deposit on a 2005 Allure 430 and have heard about cracks in the fiberglass (on the darker paint) during these model years. The coach we are looking at does have "chicken feet" scratches on the driver's side dark paint. Anyone else have any additional info?

We have the paint checking you describe in the dark color paint on our 16 yr old rig. It just began showing about 2 years ago.

I understand the fix to be redoing the fiberglass under the paint. Very expensive. I believe The Paint Department in Chino, Ca has some expertise in this type of repair.

This seems to be a more frequent occurance on the newer vintage coaches where darker paints were used and the fiberglass problem surfaced.

Our experience is that so far it is no big deal, and certainly not a repair to accomplish for cost vs benefit. Our checking is not visible from 10' away.

However, if you do not own this coach yet, you may want to get repair estimates before doing the final transaction.

Our '06 Allure developed the micro-checking in the dark paint areas after about 2 years -- but it spends all of its time in the direct sun in Southern Nevada & California.

Has not gotten any worse and as Dean stated it is not even visible from a few feet.

Repair would be extremely expensive and time consuming.

Personally, I would use the paint issue as a negotiating point but otherwise wouldn't worry about it.

But, if it will bother you then check to see what the repair cost woudl be or forgo this coach for a rig without the dark paint areas.
