My awning, I believe has too much slope from front to back. I've read up on how to adjust but have read conflicting info. I've tried to loosen up both the larger nut and bolt on the side of the bracket but they are extremely tight and don't want to break anything. I had the awning out about 18" when trying.

From what I've read the adjusting bolt is the one on the bottom after you get the other two on the side loosen up. There is also a small bolt on the side lower corner, does this come into play at all.

Also there is a pretty large gap between the brackets and awning. Is this normal?

Just my personal opinion, but you "might" want to leave that slope... Those awnings are not the most friendly for rain or WIND... Search here and you will see...

I would leave it alone.
Both mine are still up as high as they can go and I want to adjust them lower.
Ours is not a Girard brand, it's a Carefree Apex but works and looks exactly like a Girard. Seems one of Carefree's bigwigs had his wife start Girard. No idea how the patent issues work out!

Well as you can see in the photo, was wanting to drop the front arm, that way it would gain more slope away from the coach, and less from front to back. Plus it looks goofy now.

I always bring it in if wind is expected. The PO had the sensor on top tied up because he said it made a whistling noise while going down the road.

Doesn't look "goofy" to me, they should have a down and back tilt to them for runoff. I tried to remember to do that with the manual ones on our Dutch Star. Then, a couple years ago in Fresno I didn't. Lost the whole awning tube when it broke right in half. So did a bunch of others in the area it turns out. Got a real gully washer and it took out awnings, tents and some other structures.

From what I read with these is that you should have a 20 degree slope away from coach, and only a 3 degree slope from front to back.

There is a rain channel for water to move once it hits the outside support. I would think that you would want the water to travel to that channel as quickly as possible, and not running at a slant like it appears now.
