Horn won't work
I've recently gotten a 2007 Country Coach Tribute. The horn doesn't work. I checked the fuse and it's ok. Someone told me most rvs have an air horn and a city horn (there are dual air horns on the roof), and that there is usually an on/off switch for the horn, which I've looked for, without success. The owner's manual has nothing. Any suggestions for me before I have to take it to a shop? THANKS!

May likely be a stuck horn solenoid. You should have a solenoid in the bay below your driver's window. It will have air lines and two wires. Tap on it with a small hammer and see if your horns work.
Mine quit working recently and I tapped on the solenoid and they started working again. I have a new solenoid and will replace it when I get a chance.

My 2007 Allure only has the air horn activated from steering wheel - I have not found a switch to only use a city horn, nor have I ever seen a physical city horn anywhere in my coach.
My bro-in-law has a Tiffin with the switch to disable the air horn.

Interesting! I bet this maybe my problem too. Mine sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. Is this solenoid labeled? If not, how do I know what am I looking for? Thanks, smlranger!

My air horn relay is labeled and it is a standard automotive type 87/87A. The electrical output goes to an air horn valve that has the electrical output from the relay (red/orange) and a ground (green) wire plus an air supply and output to the air horns. Either may be malfunctioning.
Ill try to find a picture of mine.
Brian
EDIT: Found some pictures, horn valve is last picture. Pictures are from my front drivers bay, horn relay is top right in first picture (labelled).

Thanks so much
Thanks for the explanation and the photos. I'll do some tapping tomorrow and let you know what happens.

If there is an on off switch it would most likely be on the dash less the air horns are after market.
Here you go. The perfect fix (not):

Brian:
Mine doesn't look exactly like yours. I see connections on the right side of the bay under the driver side (pic 2) and then on the left next to the quick connect for air (pic 1). Could the air connection to the top (in pic 1) be air horn solenoid?
Thanks,

The air horn solenoid valve is to the right of the quick connect in picture one, with the red wire (12v) and the black connected to green (ground) and the black airline heading up.
The air horn relay is labelled in picture 2, I am not sure if I am seeing all of the wires, and certainly cannot see the numbering on the bottom of the relay (unscrew the attachment screw).
Here is a good description of how a standard automotive type 87 relay works. Terminal 30/51 provide the hot 12V, usually fused, higher amperage. Terminal 86 is the low amperage trigger (horn button in the steering wheel), terminal 85 is the trigger ground. When triggered (horn pressed) it energizes the relay sending 12V from terminal 30/51 through to terminal 87, output.
In your horn relay, terminal 87 connected wire should be the wire that runs down to the air horn solenoid valve (red). When energized (relay triggered from horn) it opens and allow air to pass through to air horns. It may be sticky (moisture in air rusting the valve mechanism to stick?)
Hope this helps,
Brian

Brian, YES it helps and THANK YOU, once again, very much!
So, my problem could be the black relay terminal (pic 2), or the solenoid (pic 1), right?

No luck
I did the tapping but still no horn. I guess I'll have to take it in somewhere. Thanks everyone for your responses!

Yes. As smlranger posted in #2, have someone pres the horn, hold it down and you tap on the solenoid valve with a wrench. See if it unsticks the valve. If that does not work take a spare 12v battery and connect alligator clips to the positive post and positive lead on the air horn solenoid (red) and negative post to the negative black lead on the air horn solenoid. This will provide 12v to solenoid and should open valve. If that works the relay or your horn switch (trigger) is bad. Work backwards from horn solenoid.
Or just measure voltage at solenoid with multimeter when someone is pressing and holding down horn on steering wheel. Might be simpler.
