How many older CC's are out there?

I just purchased a 1989 CC Concept. It's still at the shop having fluids and filters changed (and probably 75 gallons of fuel dumped
due to algae) so I really haven't gone over it yet. It has always been garaged, so the interior is pristine and the exterior is really good. Not driven for the last 6 years, so I'm sure there will be issues after all tires and batteries are replaced. What would be your concerns if you were in my shoes?

I would absolutely address everything related to the chassis and drivetrain first and it sounds like you are doing exactly that. I've had my 1990 Concept for exactly a year now. Mine had also been mostly sitting for the previous few years but unfortunately has been stored outdoors in Texas during that time. Although the coach still looks great it does have some checking and a couple small areas where the clear coat is starting to peel. There were also lots of mud dobber nests hidden in nearly all of the exterior openings including the air horns. The major problem I inherited was it had a bad cyclynder head gasket which did not become evident until after I got it back to California. I can only hope the previous owner wasn't aware of this pre existing problem, but who knows. Anyways, it's my fault for not (at least at a minimum) having an oil analysis done prior to purchase. Long story short, in the end I ended up doing a complete in-frame overhaul of the 6V92TA. Ouch$$$$$! I became complacent about any concerns with the motor because "these motors are built to last a million miles". I have no doubt that's realistic IF at least basic maintenance is performed and it is driven on a regular basis.

That being said, the cost of the engine overhaul is the only part of ownership of this RV that I haven't thoroughly enjoyed. Fortunately, I purchased the coach at a price that still leaves me dollars ahead overall. I am very impressed with the build quality and overall design of the coach. Pretty much every system has needed some attention one way or another but I love learning about all the complexities and having projects to do.

In addition to having all the filters (and there are lots of them) replaced I would also have the transmission completely serviced and refilled using Transynd. A tranny overhaul would cost about as much as an engine overhaul so do everything you can to take care of it. Also, have the slack adjusters adjusted on the brakes.

Your first visit to the shop won't be a cheap one but will pay dividends in the long run in both dollars saved and peace of mind. Congratulations on your purchase. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have mine. Feel free to PM me anytime.

Can anyone please tell me what this keyed switch does? Two red wires on the backside of it. I do not have a key for it so I'll have to replace it to get it working. Hoping someone has an idea to save me a bit of wire tracing. The unit is a 1988 on a Gilig chassis.

I'm with Russ (Rsponsford) on his answer that it may be an alarm system. From your description of the location, I at first thought it might be the leveling system, but there would be no need for a high-security switch-key on that. My CC does not have that accessory, so I can't speak with any first-hand knowledge. But I offer these comments:

In your process of sorting it out by changing out the switch, ASSUME everything is "HOT" electrically, (even if the battery disconnects are turned off). Mark the wires and take pictures before you start, so you can get back to where you are now (assuming your coach is running). Avoid grounding either wire as it may affect other switches/relays down the line. Worst case, it may disable the engine cranking relays as a theft deterrent in addition to setting off an audible alarm.

I have shop manuals on the Gillig chasis and will gladly copy anything for you. We are pretty much "orphaned" on the resources for our "oldies but goodies" we are privileged to own.
