How many square feet of vinyl planks to order?

i have located a supplier for the vinyl flooring with a color we like. now i don't know how many sqft of the planks i need to order. could those of you who have done it shed some light?

I don't understand your problem, but I used to teach math and science. Using grid paper measure and draw the floor area you want to cover. Divide the floor into measurable squares and rectangles and calculate the square footage. Normally add about 10% to be safe. That's it, not heavy duty math, just measure, multiply and add.

8' x 40' = 320 Sq feet plus add about 10%

8’ x 40’ = 320 sq. Ft.
Minus cabinets, shower, bed platform, slides, couches, possibly closet and stair well.
Add 5%
Divide by the amount each box or bundle contains.
= how many boxes you need to buy.

Example: if you need 90 sq. ft., after adding 5%, and each box contains 25 sq. ft., you would need to buy 4 boxes.

I had about 10% waste on my install laying my floor at a diagonal. This can vary up to about 15% for a herringbone pattern. Typical for straight lay is 5%.

thanks gents! i don't think i'll have a problem but just thought someone having the same coach and have gone through this might have a practical number. at the worst scenario, i'd do as what bob said.

doubt 8' x 40', even not close. at passenger side, a full couch, fridge, shower and cabinet; at driver side, pantry and closet, than the queen bed at rear. those are all out.

Best to have an extra unopened box in storage in case of later damage. Flooring companies are notorious about discontinuing styles and colors.

yes, definitely extra to store. because of click lock type, there will be cut-offs that can't be used (only one end has the lock, and the cut-off can only be used at one end not the other in most cases). for rv flooring, the material cost is very negligentable. i am thinking about 20% extra over maybe 250 sf (i'll measure it carefully).

Cut-offs are used to start the next row.

If you can get it from Home Depot they will take back full boxes you don’t need even special order according to my store but stock items for sure.

I'd try a different search term. I don't think there's any place in the lower 48 you could be 500 miles from a place that sells flooring.
