Howard power center steering

Just picked up a 2001 CC with a Howard power center steering, but no instructions on its use. Is this a standard device for a CC MH? Anyone use it in the past. Any comments are appreciated.

It is an aftermarket installation.

Now the bad news. Dee Howard passed away without finding a buyer for the company so it has been out of business for the past few years. I understand that the estate might have found a buyer and might be back in business in the near future.

Best bet is to do some internet searching for documents or possibly find someone with instructions on its use.

This is interesting. Sam has not answered my phone calls or emails in two years of trying. I hope you are correct. Last I knew there were no parts available. I got mine in 06. This was one of the last if not the last one to be installed.

Oops, in the last post I forgot to answer your question. Congratulations on having a HPSS. It is a very good system and you will be spoiled. Everything is done from the driver's control panel.

1. There is a red on/off switch. This turns the system on or off. I leave mine on all the time.

2. There is a dial that rotates and a PSI gage. I run at 120 to 140 PSI

3. There is a yellow centering button. Hold the steering wheel so the coach is going straight. Press and hold the button for about 5 seconds. The HPSS should have recenter the steering to match where the wheel position was when you released the button. This is helpful when driving in a crosswind. One can recenter the HPSS and it will now compensate for the crosswind.

Check the fluid every now and then. There is a sight glass on the front of the orange accumulator. The proper level is full to 1 inch below the top of the sight glass. I have not added any fluid in a couple of years. Power steering fluid is what one uses.

Interesting thread, my system quit on trip home after buying my rv. Recently determined to find the problem (a small leak in tubing). Love the system but after couple of miles rv downshift and a bell sounds. Few seconds later shifts up and things returns to normal.
Anything about the Howard system that might cause this or just a new problem.

There is nothing, with regard to the HPSS, that would interfere with anything else on a coach.

Thanks, I was afraid of that. Guess I have another problem that just cropped up.
