HWH and Entry Steps tied together

I posted this on the FB groups, but thought I'd add it here in case anyone has a similar issue.

Mid trip, my HWH panel light went out... the TRAVEL MODE light is usually lit when I'm driving.

I stopped, shut the motor and restarted... no change. The HWH reset button did nothing. Bags were still full so I continued to my destination.

Upon checking my fuses, I found one labeled HWH / ENTRY STEPS. (FYI, there are other HWH fuses too... so don't stop looking if you see the first fuse labeled HWH).

Anyway, upon seeing this fuse, I remembered that my entry steps were a bit wonky just before I left (had to open and close the door a couple of times before they would retract, and the ENTRY STEPS light on the dash seemed to stay faintly lit).

Anyway, sure enough this 7.5 amp fuse was blown. Replaced it and the steps and HWH system are both working normally again.

I was in heavy rain before and during the trip, so my guess at this point is some water intrusion under the steps caused a fuse to blow. I looked pretty closely under the steps after things dried out and didn't see any obvious loose wires, etc.

Right now, I am in the wait and see mode. If it happens again, then I will spend more time under the steps. Hopefully it was a fluke thing.

Hope this helps someone if their HWH panel goes dark.

I have made mention of the HWH and steps being on the same fuse before but got poo pooed for the info. Yup, 7.5 fuse and if IRC, it is wire 58

Followed this on FB too, appreciate you cross posting this here.

Dielectric grease dated onto the electrical connections can reduce the chance of moisture impacted shorts!

Best to you, and all,
Smitty

Tony, I think I am having the same issue. Can you tell me which fuse box that was located in? It might just be the same on mine. Thx

For me it was the second or third box from the front. Just pop the covers and look at the labels... One will say HWH/Entry Steps
