Hydraulics wins over wood....

every time.

Oops. . DW extended galley slide and did not see our small space heater had slipped partially behind the big wooden trim and, well, the sound of cracking cherry wood is not comforting. She stopped as soon as she heard the sound but the trim is pulled loose at the bottom and cracked in several places.

We had a similar episode in the bedroom when a cabinet door came open and snagged the slide trim breaking it. I was able to repair that myself but I don't have the tools with me for that kind of repair. So, this is added to our list for our appointment at CC on Sept. 26 and space heater is now stored in an outside compartment.

Easy to see why hydraulic log splitters are so popular...

So sorry to hear about the mishap. Guess we can't be too vigilant with those slides. We've sacrificed a metal handled pretzel broom, favorite golf umbrella, and a pivoting surround theater speaker to the great slide goddess'.
Thanks for the reminder.

Be well.

Ha! This could make an interesting topic. Kind of like the plug on a boat. I have a few of those, my own and others.

Did it to the bedroom slide nightstand in our '02 DSDP. Put a pillow between the slide and wall to keep any of our seven cats out. Forgot to take it out when extending the slide. Ripped the entire nightstand off and broke the top. I hadn't gotten it fixed when we traded it in for the Magna.

I've come close, a number of times. One of our wardrobe doors doesn't like to stay closed & I usually remember to always check to be sure it's closed before deploying the BR slide. But just in case, I've got a sticky note next to the slide switch that reads "wdrb"...as a reminder.

I found one cabinet door open that was hidden behind the slide when in, had I not seen it I would have ripped the door right off and maybe the slide fascia. One more item on my "check" list with the Magna!!

Well if it has to come to hydraulics or wood I hope the wood will always win. Cheaper that way. Sort of the poor man's safety valve.
