I know its likely water over the bridge at this point but I am a little puzzled how this went so sideways. When I bought my last coach out of state I never expected the guy to do anything. I called and hired the shop and controlled the inspection and only needed the seller to open his building. Your comments from your post sound like you were expecting the seller to arrange and pay for the inspection.

lol, not exactly. I found the shop on-line, called to confirm that they were comfortable with truck and RV systems (they were) and that they could do an initial PPI on it, then perform whatever R&M that we found after I'd bought the unit. They were on board with the program.

I asked the seller to deliver the unit on Friday. Didn't happen; why, I don't know. Over the weekend it was arranged that he deliver it Monday AM. He showed up at their shop without the coach, told them that they needed to see it at his home. He also said I was being presumptuous by thinking that the shop should drive the coach to see how it handled.

Seller's part was limited to delivering the coach to the shop. In a perfect world, he would not even have had to pick it back up...

...and THAT is the rest of the story.

Rick - I like your after the possible loss of earnest money loss.

Don't kick yourself on this one. You did enough conversation with the gent to feel it was OK to send the $500. Your establishing a inspection was spot on, and IMO is the norm in this level of purchase. Sure, you could have documented things a bit better up front on the earnest funds will be returned based upon - fill in the blanks - but that's behind you.

May have been a good coach, and you seemed to like the price. But enough yellow and red flags from the Seller to just walk away. (Not taking it to the inspection, means something to me. And, if he represented it as being an AZ history coach, vs a state where road salts are more common, another red flag.)

If you get the cash back, great! If not, you still may have saved thousands!

Keep up the hunt, things usually work out for the best,
Smitty

It will, Mr. D. Our coaches are all commodities, and all purchases are trade-offs. In this instance, I was trading size (longer than wanted), age (older), and miles (116K) for a low-priced tag axle.

The coach I'm looking at now is a 2006 40' Travel Supreme with half the miles of the Intrigue, for about the same price. I can live with that set of trade-offs.
