Identifying Replaced Radiators

While changing the oil and filters on my '04 for the first time, I spent some time exploring underneath. First note, I don't have a transmission PTO which was a relief. (hydraulic pump is driven off the back of the air compressor, which is driven by the ISC injection/cam gear system)

In reading several threads about the 'bolt' together replacement radiators, I have yet to actually see a picture of one. Looking through the fan is difficult to really tell the difference between aluminum and brass, but I did note that the side tanks are bolted to the core. Tank is steel.

Can anyone help me confirm that this is in fact a replacement radiator? This is a shot of the front tank, with the transmission cooler and CAC to the right.

Thanks for any knowledgeable help.

That is the way the radiator was constructed, with the bolt on steel tanks. The core could be aluminum or brass. Can't tell from the pix.

So is there any way of telling without major dismantling?

Well, you could scrape some paint off the fins and see what color the metal is. Is the color like aluminum or is it the color of brass or copper?

If the ID number starts with "RS" it probably is one of the aluminum rads. The RS means it was built by Radiator Specialties in Sacramento and could be defective.

Is there a standard spot for the ID stamp?

IIRC, my radiator had no identification on it at all. I also think that most of the CC radiators were made by a company in Sweethome,OR

The core is going to be non-ferrous in either case, so that doesn't help much. My tanks are steel, but if they all are, then that is not a good indicator either apparently.

Maybe I should contact the mfg of the replacement rads that are used. Perhaps they could give me an idea on what to look for. Who is that again?

Sorry, I thought if you were trying to determine if an aluminum radiator had been replaced by a steel radiator.
