Ignition switch
1992 Magna, Normal operation...turn on ignition switch -dash and all switches lightup turn to start runs fine
Sometimes.....turn on ignition switch nothing lights up.. start engine runs for about 30 seconds then shuts down,
so now when I go to start I have to turn the switch on and off until dash lights up then it's ok to start...
Question is....What is failing? the switch or is there some sort of safety feature that is about to fail completely and leave me stranded somewhere ?
Thanks,
Benny

On a 1992 model I suspect you have a failing ignition switch. Not familiar with your model but a lot of manufactures used a GM switch. You might want to check the connections on the back of the switch. Usually there is a plug. Make sure it's tight.

Thanks for the reply,
I see by your sig. that you have three spoiled Great Danes. I only have one spoiled Great Dane and can not imagine having three, how do you do it?
This is our second one and this one is alot wilder than the first, but she is pretty sweet and we love her very much.........But THREE oh my gosh...

I looked at it yesterday, removed each wire and put them back on, still the same,
Looks like it is a GM switch after searching Ebay, going to parts store today and see if they have them in stock,

FOUND IT...... after I bought a new switch and installed it I found a Loose wire....ignition wire splits under dash going to control panel, had a wire nut connecting them together....guess it was just a bad connection ....HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY!!

Now you have spare parts!
Great that you found the real cause and are operating again.
Thanks for posting the outcome.

Yep got lots of spare parts....every time something goes wrong I end up buying parts then figure out what's really wrong....usually bad connections, going to start with that first from now on, might just save some money,
The wire nut in this case was wrapped with electrical tape I just assumed it was a good connection....Well you know what happens when one ass-u-me-s something,
I cut the wires re-stripped them and used a better type of connector, I hope.
Going to Yellowstone soon.....WOOHOO can hardly wait....
Thanks,
Benny
