Michelin Tires
Just ordered 6 Michelin XZA2 315/80R22.5 tires for my drive and tag axles through the FMCA Michelin Advantage program. I could not find much info on them. I know they are a bigger tire than my stock size of 295’s but they will fit. Is anyone driving on them and how well do they handle? Is there any down side to them?
Thanks

We have a 04 Essex and just put the 315 in the front and 6 295 in the rear. Need to check the gap between the duals to make sure they don't rub when traveling. Check the gap with the 295 and then with the 315 to see if that is going to be a problem. Let us know the results.

I have them all around and they seem to be fine but don't have anything to compare with. They are a robust tire with good capacities. I have heard of some concerns with wheel width but the tire shop should know and as others have mentioned check your distance between the duals before leaving the tire shop.

The FMCA Michelin Advantage Plan price for the 315/80R22.5 is $600.00 each. For the 295/80R22.5 the price is $660.50 each under the plan. The service tech at the Tire store said that the width difference between the two Michelin tires was .600". I will check the gap on the Goodyear's I have on it tomorrow.

Welcome to the forum. It is always best to start a new thread when offering a new subject.
Super single tires has been discussed at length before. Use the search window at the top of the page for results. There is little advantage to singles in a motorhome application due to the low miles per year driven. Of course if you drive 250K miles per year, like team operated semi trucks, you can save fuel and have increased payload capacity.

I know Newmar tested them, guess they found some reason not to use them as all Newmars still use the standard dual arrangement. IN fact I haven't seen any MH manufacturer use them. I've talked to a few truck drivers about them. They like them on the pups but not the drive unit.

I replaced the 295's with 315's on the steer axle last year but my dealer refused to install 315's on the drive axle. His reasoning was they didn't want to be responsible for tire failures resulting from the tires "kissing" from time to time cause of road conditions. My coach does handle better with the 315's on the front but I'm comparing this to new tires as opposed to 7 year old Michelins. I also purchased my tires through the advantage program and the 315's were 65 bucks cheaper than the 295's.

The one thing that comes to mind with the big single tire is that if you lose one of the twin tires on the axle, you can still drive the coach--We did, a couple of times. If you have a single tire on the drive axle and it blows, you will be unable to move. Even if you have a tag, the load on the remaining tire would far exceed the tire load capacity.

We just picked up the coach with 6 new Michelin XZA3s. Regular price was $636 each, price through the FMCA advantage program was $546 plus excise & sales tax and mounting.

Just picked up the coach with the new 315/80R22.5 on both the drive axle and tag axle. The clearance is fine all around on both axles. I was quoted $600.00 per tire by FMCA, I will be interested what I am charged, $600.00 or Less? It would be hard to believe that the same tire through the advantage program would be a different price in different locations across the country. Well I needed them since the Goodyears were almost 9 years old.
