I want to install a Morningstar Classic 150 solar controller in my midship basement. How do I make sure it’s safe to work in there?

I know to unplug from shore power, disconnect Pos an Neg cables from coach batteries AND chassis batteries, and wait 30 mins for the charge in the capacitor of my Xantrex 3000 to dissipate. What else should I do?

You have circuit breakers / disconnects going in the line from the controller to the batteries - and controller to the panels. Don't close until all wiring is done. The boxes your panels come in - cut out a cover to keep each panel inactive till connected.

I have Morningstar 150. Works great.

One thing you MUST do - when you are nearly finished - is to connect the solar controller to the battery BEFORE you connect the panels to the controller

To be honest, apart from disconnecting shore power if you are particularly concerned and switching the inverter off at the panel, I can't see any point in disconnecting much other 12V stuff beyond the negative of the house batteries simply because you are going to have to reconnect everything anyway

We also added individual inline CB's coming down from our X's 5 240W panels. Good to isolate to check each panels output, and an added layer of turning of the the juice from the sun

We too have the Classic 150, and it's been good for us. The user board over at MidNite is mostly geared towards Off Grid home user's, but good info sharing.
