New Paint for Outside steps
Well, the black tops of our outside entry steps are looking a bit scratched after 20+ years of service.
I have replaced the adhesive traction mats a couple of times but never repainted the tops of the steps. (The sides that match the coach color are fine.)
I am thinking just a few coats of Black Rustoleum Paint?
Does anyone have words of wisdom for repainting/recovering the outside step surfaces?

On my 02 Intrigue I took some Meguiars Medium Cut Paint Cleaner to my steps which were looking pretty bad. It removed all the light scratches, but just be careful as it also removes the paint. I then followed up with their yellow wax.

dean, i painted my steps 2 years ago; please see my photo (sorry we are at a beach front there are sands on the steps )
you can use any paint either spray or brush on, then lay a full size adhesive mat covering the entire surface (rather than a strip) so you would step on the mat not on the paint. i bought the full size mat on ebay.

If you really want to dress up those steps and eliminate any need for painting, get a set of the polished stainless step covers from Summit Products in Altoona, IA. We got a set when we got the stainless trim and are very pleased with the look.
Now the stainless does get small scratches in it but it still cleans and polishes up very nicely. The kit comes with two large non skid pads.

Visual demonstration of the mat doing its job.

Dean do you have a California industrial rubber store up in your neck of the woods?
They sell the rubber non-slip stuff for tractors and other outdoor equipment and it is bullet proof.
Just put some good sand paper in a pad sander and smooth out and rough up the existing paint then use paint of choice, TSC has some good implement paints that seem to work very well.
Let it cure for about a week just to be sure then wipe down with alcohol just before applying the mat, but either leave it a little large or be sure of positioning as it grips well and will not let loose.
It is not cheap like the stuff at pep boys...

Tony, closest stores are Yuba City, Sparks and Fresno.
I guess not many tractors or farmers in the Capital City. Just lots of legislators who think we elected them to pass even more laws..........
But thanks for the tip... I will do some research on rubber mats.

Another option is epoxy paint or powder coating, I think regular paint would be way to soft and look bad quickly. I don't recall how much clearance there is for a rubber mat, the mat material could cause the step to bind up when it opens or closes if it is too thick. I also wonder if the rubber mat would be able to run right up to the edge or if it would need to be installed with a small inset to protect the edges from popping up from the heat.
