This is step one in the see-the-front-wheels solution. As mentioned above a kind neighbor donated a couple of motorcycle handlebar mirrors. I had the other components like threaded coupling nuts, bolts, lock nuts, etc. I used the setscrew from the Velvac arm that secures the head. I'm lucky to have a lathe and mill but an enterprising individual with a drill press could do the same.
Step two is to replace the Velvac glass in the main housing with two segments, a flat main mirror and a convex bottom. Northwest RV supply is supplying the parts for less than $400, delivered. I'll probably remove the motorcycle mirrors as soon as the Velvac modification is complete.
