Norcold-What you dont want to see

OK recently went to start up the Norcold and it would not get cold. Went to the back to take a look and see. After taking some insulation off found this:

http://www.irv2.com/photopost/showph...=35860&cat=500

Currently having a Samsung RF18 installed. Found out the doors will not swing out wide enough for the crisper drawers to be pulled out du to the pocket door and the slide housing that also holds the electrics.
At first we thought the doors would have to come off to be able to get the drawers out for cleaning.
But found out by removing the bottom door shelves and the glass cover on top of the drawers then unhooking the center slide from the back of the fridge we were able to lift a drawer up slightly and remove both drawers fairly easy
Good news is no more worries about hazardous Norcold fridge.

Just thought I'd share our experience,
Greg

Good to here you found it before a real problem happened. I replaced my Not-So-Cold 6 years ago with the Samsung 197, love it. I run mine on the inverter all the time, don't like to reset the clock on the micro. I know you will also like your new frig.

Perk tube (boiler section) tubing cracked from overheating
Overheating caused by off-level operations ...tubing fatigued due to lack of sufficient coolant flow
Accumlative affect.until tubing cracks
Yellowish residue is the dried sodium chromate (rust inhibitor in coolant solution)

We have only ran the refer once prior. and all was level but this is a 15 year old coach. Probably used improperly along the way in the past.
Thanks for the information..always good to know how things fail

I was going to ask how old it was. Apparently that vintage used thinner tubing and had noticeably less tolerance for off-level operating. Not that the newer ones are much better for off-level.

My driveway is pitched at the 3 degree side-to-side limit. It takes an 8" ramp under the front wheels of a 242" wheelbase on a 38' motorhome to bring it to level.

Surprisingly to me, that 3 degrees was not that noticeable inside. Nowhere near "a glass slides off the table" angle.
