old tv replacement

We are taking delivery on a 98 intrigue in a week or so. We want to replace old TV with flat screen. It looks like the upholstery goes under the TV box. Would it be feasible to take that box out and have nice cabinet in its place that would only stick out as far as ones that are there now. If worst case mount on front of TV box. Appreciate any input. . Thanks

On our Monaco, I pulled out the old tv, remade the cabinet to the new 'flat screen' dimensions, installed an articulating mount, then added a new 32" flat screen. We love it. I guess it just depends on the type of cabinet your TV is installed in. As far as the upholstery you're talking about, one thing to keep in mind is you can always re-cover with a vinyl. I did that on the engine cover in our old gas motorhome. It was previously carpeted and I pulled that off, added a thin layer of padding, then used an off white vinyl to match the dash to cover it. It ended up looking like it was made that way.
