That's a bummer, Gary. I hope you can get it fixed for as little wallet pain as possible. We've had SF for nearly 40 years & no issues either - a check on the spot from the adjuster has been our norm.

From all of us who've "kissed" one of those concrete barriers at a station, I'd think they are attracted to motorhomes! They just jump out there while we're not looking.

I would be surprised if State Farm would triple my rate. I have been with them since the late 1960's and, while I have had the 'accident free' discount suspended for one year after a claim that was my fault, my rates have never increased dramatically after a claim. The accident free discount is generally not a huge amount.

Talked to my SF agent and he said to find someone (he knows I plan to use CC) that can fix it and just call them with their estimate. He doubts an adjuster will even check but may ask for some photos. Spoke to CC and they advise (based on pics sent to them) the door will need to be replaced and they can have one in about 4 weeks (they make their own fiberglass stuff but not the metal doors). He also said they work with State Farm all the time and have a good relationship with them.

I will make my final decision on doing the insurance claim vs. paying out of pocked when I get CC's general estimate later today.

My SF agent's office is one block from the diesel pumps where I had my mishap. My agent told me he has had a number of clients with similar claims from that same site, RV's, trucks, trailers. It will be my last fill up there.

Ouch is the correct word.
If CC can have a door ready for you to pick up and/or install that, I think, would be best. Paint when you get back.
Neighbor has a side dent in his coach that I had a time finding when I knew where to look, CW $ 1400.00 to repair and paint so you are looking significantly more

It will be a story for the future! With the years you have with State Farm, I assume you have a good relationship with your broker? If so, call him and ask him/her for his input 'off the record'. No harm in asking. If you don't know him/her that well - yeah, probably do it out of pocket and be done with it!

And at least you did not have your wife telling you to STOP, and still back into something that you 'knew' you could clear! (And yes, she did smile and just shake her head at me - and said 'Why have me spot you, if you don't follow my signals?' And yes again, I do now follow her signals!)

Best of luck on this repair,
Smitty

Gary;

I am so sorry for you. I expect you beat yourself up pretty bad? I know I would have.

So sorry this happened. I was an insurance adjuster and once a policy holder made a claim, it was on their record, at least that is how it was with Nationwide.

Well we had good sam and it tripled over a 3500 dollar claim and changed insurance companys that had a lower rate than the 1800 good sam up'ed us.
I beat myself up perty bad over the motorhome vs guard pole.
30 years driving fire engines and medic rigs and not a scratch.
I blame it on the TMB syndrome...Too Many Birthday's....:

Same here. While I was a volunteer, I drove both fire apparatus, crash trucks and ambulances for over 25 years and never put a scratch on any of them. I have 'scratched' both of the DP's I have owned. TMB sounds like as good of an excuse as any .
