Power Cord Reel Contacts

I read a post on the Yahoo CC owners forum about corrosion on contacts inside the power cord container. Has this been an issue with CC owners? I can see the big carpet covered box in the closet. Is it difficult to access the mechanism to check and clean the connections?

One owner said he was removing the mechanism and going with an extension cord type of set up. That seems extreme to me unless this particular system is really problematic.

My coach has the Glendinning reel and I haven't had any problems with it.

I have an "experienced" '02, did CC go to a cheaper reel in later years? The Glendinning is bullet proof.

The Yahoo poster with issues has an actual motorized reel that looks like a Shoreline (from his pic). While I have not actually seen mine, I believe it is the gizmo that has an electric cord winder that coils the cord in a bucket instead of storing it on a reel. Not sure who makes that one.

I discovered another type of problem with them. Last winter, I was all packed up and ready to leave for Florida. I unplugged and discovered that the cold cord was so stiff, that I couldn't shove it in. It took me about two hours with a hair dryer to soften it up.

This year, I have it already retracted, and I am plugged in with an extension cord.

Power Cord Reel Contacts

Howdy,
SMLRanger is correct, as most CC were equipped with the Glendenning Cable Master power cord system. These are not the slip ring type device, and are hard wired to the main electrical input. There are no 120 / 240 contacts in the device as the system only pulls or pushes on the hard wired electrical cable.
Power Cord Reel Contacts

Luck,
Bob
