PTO 2006 Allure

Because of overlooking this forum and others, I am now investing $$$ in a rebuilt PTO and a new hydraulic pump.

Are there any other expensive preventive maintenance "gotchas" I have overlooked?

Have you changed the filters that is part of that system, mine takes 3 nelson filters and Dexron 3 Trans fluid.

Are you rebuilding the pto in addition to the hyd pump? If the shaft splines were damaged on the pto you should just buy the wet conversion kit as it comes with a new shaft. I installed mine myself, it wasn't too bad to do.

Your radiator might go out on you in the future, but that probably isn't something that you mess with until the problem arises.

Ok mine PTO is attached to my CAT transmission and as far as I know of there are no maintenance items to take care of the PTO. Do either of you know of any?

Thanks

tagaxle,

Unless you have had a "wet kit" installed you need to inspect and lube the pto pump shaft every 5000 miles.

OK thanks. after reading lots of PTO information on this website I need to do more research on what I have down there. My Hydraulic light had been staying on so am changing the hydraulic oil and filter. This coach sat for most all of its life and this is the second time it has happened to me in the three thousand mile we put on it. The first time I just changed the filter so this time will do all of it except what is in the hoses, about 20 quarts as it has an 80 quart system. Thanks for your input on the PM on the shafts and every 5K miles is quite often so if I have a dry I will swap over to a wet. I will add that both times the light came on, the hydraulic fan was still turning and the steering was still very good so figure that it was the oil and filter but will have to wait till I get it all back together and run it to see. Also just could be the sending unit. I will keep it short as I believe I have written my issue up in another section "somewhere" on this site. I am new still feeling my way. again thanks for your input.

Tagaxle,

On the all CAT setup, I believe that the power steering is on a separate gear driven pump on the engine. The PTO pump is for the cooling fans. Also, there should be a switch in the back bay where the engine diagnostic port is located that resets the light.

Thanks on the reset button. I was told there is one in the manuals but it stated in the engine compartment. Also will check into the steering. I have a contact with the Chelsea Parker PTO ChelseaTech@Parker.com He wants me to take some pictures and send but thinks it is a 267 PTO. Will wait and see.

Thank you
