PTO Driven Power Steering and Radiator Fan Pump Issues
I am experiencing the dreaded failure of the PTO driven pump that drives the power steering and radiator fan. To suddenly find yourself without power steering a 65 mph is not something I want to repeat soon.
I am curious how many have had this issue and how many have added the wet kit from JDRV either before or after having the problem ?
I am having a very difficult time getting either the pump or just a shaft for it. Right now the delivery time from Gillig on a pump is 6-8 weeks, quite a long time to be stranded 1700 miles from home, but I can't move it with no fan or power steering.
Anyone have any ideas on how to locate the manufacture of the pump or spare parts ? I am stuck in Burns Oregon awaiting parts for repair.
My coach is a 1998 Intrigue #10388 on a Gillig chassis.

Call a ag tractor service company
We are talking about a pump that was added by Gillig or ???.
These are off the shelf parts created by some OEM someplace, most farm tractor service providers as well as other heavy equipment support companies are well suited to locate such parts as their customers cannot afford to have equipment out of service for a blown part.
Get as much data from the part as you can, castings or label parts as well as the engine size etc and get the yellow pages, good luck.

We had the wet kit installed last year just to be safe. OMCC did the work and when they examined the splines there was almost no wear at all. Better safe than sorry.

Installed the kit before had any problems. shaft was good. Purchased from JDRV and he was great in assisting with the installment. Suggest you call him about any needs in addition to wet kit, he might be able to help.

I have been in contact with JDRV and have purchased the wet kit to avoid future problems, but I need to find a pump shaft or pump to correct the current issue.
The biggest problem is trying to identify the pump and/or specs as the are limited markings on the case. I have contacted Gillig they have none in stock and it will take several weeks to get one from them.
I was hoping that possibly someone else had been thru this issue and had some insight on where I may source one.
I am even open to a used one from a junkyard if anyone is aware of a CC in the salvage yards.
Not sure what manufactures used this Gillig chassis, but the problem seems to be fairly common for no one to stock parts.
The suggestion to try Implement dealers is being acted upon as the repair shop I am at works with heavy duty farm and construction equipment.

Bob,
Dealing with JD gives you just about all the resources available for finding the needed parts. If JD, OMC or possibly (Caleb) at Laseen in Albany cannot expendite purchase and delivery of the parts your only other choice would be to have a machine shop manufacture or modify a similar part for your needs.

What engine is in it?
Gillig may have built the chassis, but the pump may have come with the engine.
Depending on the layout the chassis may have been built with a engine that had all engine mounted accessories attached.
Our 1989 with 3208 looks this way, the pump looks factory to the engine, the AC compressor has a bracket that does not look to be cat built.
You may get the engine serial number and then locate a factory authorized dealer for same, if Cat many of ther dealers can identify be serial number exactly how the engine left the factory and you may be able to identify the pump and source a replacement.
It only takes a phone call...after you get the serial number.

JDRV
I lost my power steering last month due to the stripped shaft for the power steering pump. The pump that runs the radiator fan sets in front of the power steering pump so it stopped working. Losing power steering is not good but overheating the engine by not realizing that system was not working could have been very costly.
JD was very helpful. He saved us money and time.
