Quartzsite 2016?

Does any group of Country Coach owners form on the ground at/near Quartzsite during the RV show? The coming one is scheduled, I believe, January 16th through January 24th.

I know it's looked down upon by many, including my DW. For DW it's the dry camping aspect, conserving water, dust, limiting electricity use, tracking dirt, campfire smoke, etc.

The iRV2 Monaco folks have been gathering in a loose formation south of town for a number of years. Coaches drift in and out over the course of the show. I think they said they had 51 coaches at this year's (2015) gathering. Understood that there are a lot more Monaco's and sibling brands on the road than Country Coaches.

The "Big Tent" and surrounding vendor outlets are good places to look over accessories, options, trinkets, in the flesh to see if you can live without them or not. One year the Monaco guys struck a deal for 4?, 5?, 7? Winegard Trav'ler antennas installed at the campsite. Same with a group buy of some windshields. And there is always some repair or modification work done. One year they replaced several slide toppers, Another year fixed a bunch of front door scissor arms and adjusted the front door latches. Both common problem areas in Monaco's.

I enjoyed the two or three years we joined the Monaco group when it was smaller. We'd spend two or three days and then move on to our winter range nearer to Phoenix. This year we plan on spending one day and two nights somewhere near Quartzsite during the show week.

I'm not volunteering to organize anything but will post here dates and lat/lon for our stop at Q and welcome anyone wanting to park nearby. It can be free or $40 for two weeks. $40 gets you access to a dump station and water. Since we're thinking about only two nights we'll probably shoot for a free area.

We go to mile post 99 where the ham radio guys hang out. I have yet to find a CC club that will spend any time in Q. The South West Country Coachers went one time a couple of years ago but stayed in a campground and there was a lot of grumbling

You might consider High Jolly BLM Campground, it was a free area when were there last year. I don't recall any water or dump station, but plenty of people and plenty of space. We will be meeting some friends there and staying for a few days and then headed out to our next destination, yet to be determined. We will be in a new Excursion pulling a 2015 Black Jeep Wrangler, stop by for a hello. JH
