Rear Axle Moves Back & Forth

My 2007 Inspire rear axle moves out of alignment from hard acceleration or hard braking. Of course when this happens you end up "dog tracking" until it rights itself again. Does anyone know what is broken that would allow this to happen.

Sounds like a great time to stop driving it, hook it up to a tow truck and haul it off to get the problem figured out and fixed before it causes more damage or and accident.

Pumper has it right. Time to discover the issue before it gets worse.

Something sound broken. Mobile mechanic would be the first thing to consider.

Get it to a which specializes in spring repairs in large trucks. You likely have either a broken U-Bolt or center pin. This could be dangerous or at the very least leave you stranded along the side of a highway.
Anything which attaches to the rear axle such as brake lines, driveshaft, shock absorbers etc. can be seriously damaged without any warning.

Wayne,

Look under the coach on the passenger side and just ahead of the outside of the tire. You'll see a very large bracket that is bolted to the frame at the top and has a large bolt at the bottom. You can see this without climbing underneath the coach. Look on the large bolt at the bottom and there will be a large washer under it (Everything is large under there). There is another washer on the inside. These washers must have some tack welds to the beam that runs front to rear and underneath the differential. I suspect the welds have failed or were removed by someone. This is where the adjustment for the thrust angle is located. Sounds a little Mickey Mouse I know but knowing that many large Class A's have no adjustment at all this is not too bad.

If this is your problem you will need to get it to someone that has the equipment to adjust the trust angle then place a couple of small welds between the washers and beam. Just tightening the large bolt will not hold the thrust adjustment by itself.

If pictures would help let me know.

Thank you, this makes good sense. I just didn't know where to look for the welds.
