Replacing my shocks. Update on air leaks

Well after 3 trips to different shops I finally got my air leaks stopped. Many leaks in the real selenoids. Replaced all O rings

She’s holding air and level and I’m starting to fell after a year of constant upgrades /repairs/ service to chassis and house I’m getting the reason why people love country coach. When functioning as built she’s a dream.

So now I’m replacing shocks. My coach has 120,000 miles on it and these are original. I called Kevin as I am a subscriber to his service and he gave me part numbers


Rear Shocks: #90-1951SP2P

Front Shocks: #90-2497SP1

Tag Shocks: #8805-1011

I had the shop I’m at in Vegas order these but after reading all this info on shocks it appears these OEM replacements would not be the choice for most

I have not had installed yet and I’m sure for shipping cost I can replace or upgrade.

Is it possible that the 15 years since mine were installed the Koni sp1 have been improved to be the right choice ?

If not too late, and if it's available for your coach - I think you'd be much happier with the Koni EVO-99's. It's like the FSD, just much more robust, as it was developed to support the large highway traveling busses in Europe.

On the rear's and tag's, suggest you see if Koni SP3 Adjustable shocks are available for your size.

Since you have some model numbers, call Koni's Tech Support to ask about the rears. Or if you do cal Brazel's on the EVO-99's, review with them too...

Best of luck to you. The SP1's would have been working pretty hard on your IFS! At least you had the 90 series, vs the 88 series of SP1's that were installed on my real Allure's - same shock I had on my 18K F53 chassis on my T-28 Bounder. The IFS just overwhelmed them!

The magna front suspension is a challenging to damper. With the ifs the shock placement creates a 2-1 load ratio so with 9k thats 18k that needs to be slowed down. That kind of load will just walk all over shocks and work the hell out of them.
From my reading the koni evo99s or the more expensive king 3 inch. The 3inch bore has almost 4 times less internal presure due to the piston displacement.
Mine has fsds on the rear and they seemed to work ok but the rear shocks have half the load of the front.

In a pinch last spring I had to replace my Roadkings with Koni’s due to a broken joint on a Roadking. I’ve had them repaired and this morning Kaiser will install them for me.

The Koni’s I bought in a pinch were the adjustable ones but not the EVO99’s. Wish I had because these ones don’t perform as well as the RK’s. I guess I’ll keep them as spares.

I also replaced my drive shocks this summer. Henderson sold me 9044-1004 with limiting straps. They seem to be OK.
