Roof treatment

I'm getting a little chalking having put Buskote on years ago. I've decided to try the Mop & Glo or Zep floor wax approach. Which one of these do people suggest I go with?

Dicor has a product for fiberglass roof. I applied it in 2012 and still good.

Rich, I've read of folks having problems with the floor waxes used in this way because those waxes were supposedly made for interior use and therefore don't have UV inhibitors. Just something to consider.

On my coach I've been sticking to CC's recommendation (stated in my CC manual) to put 303 protectant on the roof. So far, no chalking with that.

No yellowing? Is your coach outdoors under the sun all the time?

Yes I read about that, that's what worries me. Some have issues others are quite happy so I don't know what to make of it. Could be climate.

I have a garage so its not in the weather when not being used. The zep did take away some brightness. I did 4 coats but supper thin. i think less then a cup per coat for a 45 ft. It looked like it soaked in because the roof was really blotchy with the first coat and got better with each coat. I think some folks lay a heavy coat like one would do on a floor. After i did my roof i told a friend with a white boat about it and he did his boat. The top looks good but the sides didn't hold up.I think it was the salt water.

I have read that almost all car waxes have limited UV protection in their product.

The role of a car wax is to protect the car's paint (clear coat) which is the real UV protection. Any UV protection from applied wax is minimal because the wax coat is so thin.

The top of my coach has no paint just gel coat. Applying 303 supposedly ads UV protection to non-painted surfaces. It seems to work.

I would guess car wax or floor wax would not ad significant UV protection to a gelcoat or painted roof.

Decent waxes and sealants formulated for vehicles actually do provide UV protection for the paint--a thick layer isn't needed--and to keep the product itself from yellowing. Yellowing is the problem that seems to come up most often with floor waxes used on vehicles--although that may not be a issue on an RV roof not visible to most people

I will be doing my roof fix this spring if it ever stops raining. I have everything now to do the job. I searched the internet and found this one.

Stops raining? In the Portland area?

I have been looking at methods to do this as well. The Rust-Oleum way looks as good as any. Bright red, maybe.

I used a boat deck paint I found on eBay. It works well for me. I installed it with a paint roller. I also covered a little of the body paint that was getting screwed up from the sun where it meets the roof color.

Have used 303 several times on our 2006 magna seems to work well white stricks have never been an issue but the coach stays garaged. Need to clean roof well let dry then put on in small areas 2x2 ft aprox.let set for few min. then wipe off excess last for several years for me but coach is always garaged except when in use have 198000 miles on her.

I spoke with Buskote. They suggested their primer and another coat of Buskote. They would give me a discount. They also said oil based or acrylic deck paint should be OK over Buskote. I am sick of Buskoting so I think I will try the deck paint once I talk to some paint companies. My coach is in the Western sun all year.
