Step warning light

I have one small issue with our new (to us) Country Coach. There is a warning light on the dash indicating that the step is extended. Never goes out.

I wonder if anyone has any experience with a similar problem. I'm mostly trying to figure out where to start looking. If there is some trigger outside I assume I can find it, but I suppose it could be a problem up at the dash end.

Any thoughts would be appreciated before I start crawling around.

thanks

toni

First, is the step actually extended? If I were to hazard a guess, I'd bet the light is not really saying "Step Extended". I would bet that what the circuit is actually saying is "Step Not Fully Retracted". If you look underneath, somewhere you'll see a mechanical switch that gets activated when the step reaches the inward end of its retraction motion. Possibly just needs an adjustment.

There is a very poor quality switch under the steps towards the rear of the assembly, you need to crawl under with the steps out to see it. Mine suffered when driving in the wet, the light would be on until the switch dried out. I replaced it, Kevin Waite has them, however they are not IP rated so still had an intermittent issue. I coated the switch with silicone and then when that dried covered the plunger with waterproof grease. No more problems since.... so far and that was a year ago. If someone has an IP 67 or higher rated option I would love to get one.
I have added a picture of the switch.

Thanks Michael and John. I suspected something like that. I'll find it and either adjust or replace. If I have to find a new switch and get hooked up with something good, I'll post it.

Be cautious when you are under there.

If that step extends for some reason you are not going to be a happy camper.

thanks Arch...been there, done that. I had an issue with the step on our monaco. Released and smacked me in the head. Fortunately nothing injured other than my pride.
