Steps quit working

Our steps under the entrance door quit working today, I checked the fuses and they are good, suspect the motor might have died, wondering if anyone has any other ideas or suggestions

The first thing to check is if you have power to the motor. First wiggle power plug to the motor. If nothing then pull the plug and check with a voltmeter while opening and closing the door. If no power is present then it's your door switch or the step controller.

If you haven't greased it in a while you may also give that a try.

Also check the contacts on the door to make sure they haven't fallen off.

One common mistake people make is stepping on while they are moving. This puts a lot of strain on the motor.

Clean the door contacts and clean the ground connection. Both get fouled easily and both can cause the steps to quit working.

Some trouble shooting info here

The motor is nothing more than a auto power window motor.
I got one from a junk yard for 10 bucks for my old class C.
I think it came out of a ford Taurus

I got under mine with door open and pulled on the wires and it started working. I found the bad connection and spliced that wire and it has worked now for 10 months.
