Angry Stuck waste gate

My 2000 Allure has a stuck waste gate. Any suggestions on freeing it up? What experience have you had? What about running with the waste gate inoperative?

Is it open or closed? If it is open or you get it open, buy a twist-on Valterra waste valve. It fits on the outlet where the waste hose attaches. This will give you time to have the faulty valve replaced at your convenience.

Hi Ray thanks for posting about that twist-on Valterra waste valve fix. I googled it and I do believe I'll get me one just in case. Makes sense to have one

Cheers
Willey

I saw a post one time where a man drilled a small hole in the flat part of the top of the valve where the handel is . The hole was just big enough to get the lube straw of wd40 into. After spraying the lube in and letting is set if worked fine. He then put a small screw in the hole and it work. Plus you can go back and lube it once in a while if needed.

As you speak of running (the MH?) assume the discussion is concerning the engine turbo and not the black/grey waste system.....
If it were me, I would soak the moving parts with Liquid Wrench Super Penetrant - 2 or 3 wettings then let it sit for a few hours. Can you tell if it's the actuation mechinism or the butterfly valve? At any rate, the penetrant will burn off right away so then you would add PacBrake exhaust brake maintenance synthetic lubricant (found ours at a truck stop).
We're certainly not experts but running with the waste gate stuck open should only affect your gas pocketbook as there will be less power for any pedal position.

Smile Stuck waste gate-false alarm

I asked for help in my previous post. Thanks for the replies. Talked to Rocky Mt Cummins here in Boise. They said bring it in, we can air it up and test the waste gate operation. They were optomistic that it was OK. They tested it OK. So I am "down the road free and clear"--well, almost, since they wouldn't let me out without some credit card action!

Glad to hear the problem was not one after all!
