Surge Guard 40250-RVC Problem

Has anyone replaced their Surge Guard 40250-RVC automatic transfer switch?
Ours failed yesterday and was continually cycling the AC power on and off. This fried two power strips inside the coach. I called TRC and the unit is not repairable. The new unit (40350-RVC) appears to speak a different protocol which means that the intelletec and silverleaf systems would no longer be able to manage the coaches energy usage. Has anyone found a work around for this problem?

TRC Surge Guard products are all 'one and done.' If it doesn't fail in the first year, you're on your own. I'd suggest replacing the unit with a good auto transfer switch and then install a Progressive Industries EMS. They have a lifetime repair/replace warranty and are great folks to work with.

You might find a compatible ATS with your Silverleaf or Intellitec systems, or relocate the sensors that provide the information to them.

I'm at the FMCA rally in Coos Bay OR. Silverleaf rep here says it's just a jumper/protocol change and then still works through the Silverleaf whole house system. I looked into it this morning since it looks like mine is failing too.

Mr. D:

I was able to repair mine by backward engineering the schematic for the control board. I don't have the documentation with me but there were two input sensing circuits using a 1 watt 150 ohm resistor and a 1uF capacitor. It looked like one of the capacitors was mounted over one of the resistors and the capacitor got cooked by the heat from the resistor. I replaced the resistors with 5 watt-ers (three watts would have been sufficient) and the caps with 1 uF 450V metalized polypropylene film caps. So far so good. Removing and reinstalling the switch was a bit of a contortion due to its position in the middle of the bay.

I've had a Parallax 501 going on 10 years. Seems to be very high quality. The new one is even heavier duty.

Faulty 40250RVC???

This AM my RVC went down...unplugged - tried again but no luck - went to a 50/30 amp Dog bone fires right up - Still no 50 amp.

The problem you had that required the repair you made - was the failure mode similar?
