I removed the shield from my rig.
1. It did save a possible fiberglass damage from a Pheasant flying in the wrong lane.
2. I have very few new road chips in the paint 7 years after the shield's removal.
3. I found it to be impossible to clean the back side of the shield because the fasteners held it too close to the fiberglass. So it was a major appearance distraction and a frustration builder.
4. I had to release 6 or more shield fasteners to open my generator slide.
5. The lower "bumper" is where road chips occur and the shield provided no protection for that area.
You will need to create or obtain some clear acrylic spacers if your shield is like my OEM shield. I believe there were 8 that were about 3" long.
They fastened to the fiberglass and facilitated wing nuts holding the shield to the spacer.
Here is a photo of the rig with the shield just removed and the spacers and brackets still attached.
