Zep wet look

I just purchase a 2000 CC Alure & it had a lot of clear coat peeling. A friend who own an auto repair shop recommended that I use an air compressor & remove all the loose clear coat. I was very surprised on how much clear was coming off with just using the air gun. I then washed the coach twice with "Dawn" and rinsed. I put 5 very thin coats of Zep on & you have to really look hard to see where the clear was removed. I was surprised that the clear only was coming off the white & not the green painted areas.

I have the same model as yours. Mine has just started on the roof, I wondered if I put on some clear bra or Zep on the edge where the clear coat is good, if it would stop the continued peeling of the clear coat.

Thanks for sharing, it sounds like this is a problem with many coaches around those years.

My friend believes that if I got all the loose clear off I should be ok. I only have a small section to finish & I should be done with this project...then on too the next.

I have been using Zep on the vertical side panels of the rig where the clear coat peels in sheets from the white color areas. In those areas, clear coat had been applied over gel coat. No base coat paint was used.

I strip the clear coat with a razor blade, apply Bartender's Friend and then apply 5 coats of Zep. It is a good 3 foot solution appearance wise.

I have just completed replacing the clear coat on the three crown edges of the roof. To do that, I sanded, applied primer, base coat, and clear coat. This process was done on the brow of the rig in 2003 and is still solid today. The three paints are designed to bond to each other.

Just applying a fresh coat of clear coat over the gel coat resulted in success for only about two years.
